Abstract

Multi-objective Evolutionary Building Design

Buildings are air-conditioned to maintain occupant comfort; the greater the need to maintain comfort, the higher the energy use. This presentation describes the use of evolutionary algorithm in exploring the trade-off between building energy use and occupant thermal comfort. The results presented during the presentation illustrate the change in trade-off with season of operation, and that the approach can also provide information of the sensitivity of the energy use to changes in the design parameters.
